follow the optimal quest guide on the wiki. Ideally start with the waterfall quest which is a classic. Get some magic levels to unlock teleports to avoid all the running

idk about ogg but as a musician we typically prefer aiff over wav because wav contains no Metadata and mp3 is compressed.

8:05 A very important lesson in programming is "always name your variables in a way that makes it easy to understand". Computers have not had an issue with variable name lengths for decades now so there's no reason to name variables "wwlock" and "wwalock" and additionally write a comment to make clear what they mean! It's far easier in the long run to name them "roomLockedBeforeWerewolfAttack" and "roomLockedAfterWerewolfAttack" or something similar - makes it clear what they're used for and while it's a bit more to type (which, granted, is less of an issue in other programming languages where the IDE has autocomplete) it's far easier to see what they're meant for.

I know that I'm about five years late with this comment, but the reason why the code in Dan Cox's tutorial didn't work was not because he used an older version of Inform 7 - Yes, he did use an older version back in 2013, but the main reason it didn't work was because of the extension he used - Basic Screen Effects by Emily Short. Newer versions automatically translates your code into the Glulx format, which doesn't work with the extension. You'd have to change it in the Settings tab to Z-Code format. Then his code, all of it, works fine.

I'm trying to make I7 NOT try to be smart, precisely if I have a room called "entrance to the Black Knight castle" and a person named "The Black Knight" it will confuse both and refuse to compile. I could use the "printed name" property as a workaround but that would still make for weird/unwanted reactions to some player commands. Is ther any way to enforce strict matching for specific names at compile time and/or when player commands are interpreted ?

When adding things to my inventory I use the command (set:$inv to $inv + (a: "Guest House Notebook")) But it changes nothing. It doesn't add to the inventory
